Trump’s immigration pitch falls flat with Republicans near the border

Pressed by ABC’s Martha Raddatz about what would happen under a Trump presidency to all undocumented immigrants, not just those who are criminals, Conway said, “Once you enforce the law, once you get rid of the criminals, once you triple the number of [immigration] agents, once you secure the southern border, once you turn off the jobs magnet, jobs and benefit magnet, then we’ll see where we are”.

Beyond the wall, and the absolute lack of detail on the methodologies by which it would both be built and financed, Trump talked about how he would increase the border patrol force by about 25 percent. The Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan think tank also based in Washington, D.C., says there are an estimated 820,000 illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes.

But other Latino advisers, including Florida pastor Mario Bramnick and Kentucky State Senator Ralph Alvardo, said they would continue working with the Trump campaign. He said the easier path would have been to “cross my arms” and do nothing in response to Trump’s “affronts, insults and humiliations”, but he believed it necessary to open a dialogue to stress the importance of the U.S. -Mexico relationship.

The problem here isn’t just that no sane person ever thought Mexico would be paying for Donald Trump’s “wall”. And, despite his insistence that everyone will be treated in a humane fashion, the lack of specificity in Trump’s plans only fuels concerns, something he will need to address if he is to win over voters still undecided.

Trump raged against what he called President Barack Obama and Clinton’s “open borders” policy, accusing the Democrats of caring more about immigrants living in the USA illegally than for American citizens.

CNN reported Trump arrived in Mexico City by airplane and was taken by helicopter to the presidential palace. Trump was accompanied by Alabama Sen.

In its place, Trump says he wants “to keep immigration levels measured by population share within historical norms”, and he’s not talking about recent years or even the levels of the early 20th century.

“Maybe the president’s staff didn’t brief him on it, maybe he forgot about it, so he brought it up”, Giuliani said. That’s right: The face of the migrant in the United States is increasingly female. Trump was willing to risk traveling to a country where he is deeply unpopular and to meet with a leader who has been sharply critical of his views, going so far as to compare him to Adolf Hitler.

Meanwhile, cultural exchange has been another important dimension in which both countries have worked well, said Pena Nieto as he mentioned the exhibition of the work by prominent Mexican artist Diego Rivera touring China’s Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

The Clinton campaign put out a new video Friday morning that is a brutal take down of Donald Trump’s disastrous visit with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Wednesday marked the first trip outside the United States for either candidate in the general election. One aide described the businessman as “very, very pumped” as his plane traveled to Phoenix for the day’s final event. That’s not how things work on the world stage.
