Trump’s pick for Justice Dept could influence immigration
The controversy over Sessions, now President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general, centered then around remarks Sessions allegedly made to an African American former assistant United States attorney. More controversially, during a 1986 hearing in Congress over his appointment to a federal judge post, he joked that the “Ku Klux Klan was OK until I found out they smoked pot”.

I’m also reminded of how Sessions made it a point to be in Selma for the 50th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday”, joining arms with Rep. John Lewis and other leaders to cross the Edmund-Pettus Bridge.
Even though the Alabama NAACP is asking shoppers not to take part in Black Friday, they aren’t asking for a boycott of the entire shopping season, officials said.
But some on the political side of marijuana legalization are aghast at the prospect of Sessions becoming attorney general, fearing that he would make marijuana a law enforcement priority.
Bannon led the Breitbart website, which has been widely condemned as racist, sexist and anti-Semitic.
“It was pretty modest reform, and you would have thought that it was a jailbreak the way he talked about that bill”, said Kevin Ring, vice president of Families Against Mandatory Minimums. There is also the possibility that some state attorneys general may align with Sessions and in cooperation with the respective state banking regulator and federal regulator, exert even more pressure on the financial institutions, and by extension the entire “state legalized” marijuana industry Financial institutions, investors, the medical industry and other intrinsically entwined in this matter must simply prepare for what happens next, whatever that may be. Jeff Sessions’ (R-AL) controversial nomination as attorney general in the incoming administration because he has never personally heard the Republican senator espouse racist views. He said that because he came to know Sessions and understand his character. “What more can you ask for?” he said. “These people who’ve been suppressed by the positive transformation that has gone on over the last few years are now feeling free to express themselves”.
“Jeff Sessions has a decades-long record – from his early days as a prosecutor to his present role as a Senator – of opposing civil rights and equality”, said Sherrilyn Ifill, LDF president and director-counsel. Jeff Sessions as the U.S. Attorney General. “It is the toxic ideology of Islam”, he continued. As Americans for Limited Government President Rich Manning explains in a November 2016 press release, “While soft-spoken, Senator Sessions has the steel-willed determination to restore DOJ from its current corrupted partisanship by putting the blindfold back on Lady Justice as he enforces the law”. “Sessions has blocked legislative efforts to ensure racial equality in minority communities, including opposition to President Obama’s judicial nominations and full enforcement of the Voting Rights Act”.
Sessions can not be formally nominated for the post until after Trump’s inauguration in January.
Washington attorney A. Scott Bolden said Trump is “0 for 4” on diversity. It also states that Bannon has publicly said that his news organization is a platform for the alt-right.
In February, Sessions became the first senator to endorse Trump, and became one of Trump’s surrogates later in the campaign. When attackers resort to 30-year-old falsehoods it is clear evidence of their lack of substantive objection.
“I’ve known Jeff for 20 years”, Graham said on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom” Tuesday. Would cannabis dispensaries like Portland’s Potlandia suffer while Jeff Sessions is a member of Donald Trump’s cabinet? “I really believe you should leave it up to the states”, he said at a rally in Reno previous year.
