Trump’s rough handling of rally dissenters stirs questions

On Wednesday night, a Trump supporter sucker-punched an African-American protester as he was being escorted out of a rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

But Trump stood up for his supporters Sunday and blamed Bernie Sanders’ campaign for infiltrating his rallies with aggressive protesters – which Sanders blasted as a lie. In contrast, the Bloomington event was a much calmer affair, though protesters interrupted Trump four times.

Sanders says on ABC’s “This Week” that anyone following Trump’s campaign “knows that he tells the truth very, very rarely” and that in this instance, “He’s lying again”.

Nor were the protesters enamored of Trump. He said the woman with them started shouting once Trump’s speech began. “He’s doing things that you would see a showman do”.

At the end of the video, Rakeem Jones is seen being tackled to the ground and arrested by security. “And if they’ve got to be taken out, to be honest, I mean, we have to run something”.

Tapper persisted. “Some of your critics point to quotes you’ve made at these debates – at these rallies – including February 23rd, “I’d like to punch him in the face, ‘ referring to a protester”.

Chuck Todd asked Trump to confirm that meant he would pay for McGraw’s legal fees, which is something Trump often promises his audiences he will do, should they be arrested for accosting protesters.

The man who was punched has told The Associated Press that he and others went to the event as observers, not protesters.
