Trump’s taco tweet fires up social media

On Thursday May 5, US President Barack Obama spoke by telephone with his Mexican counterpart, Enrique Peña Nieto, to wish him and all Mexicans a happy Cinco de Mayo and discuss bilateral cooperation.

The lengthy warning, titled “Fiesta Time or Jail Times”, about driving while intoxicated made many references to such drinks as tequila and margaritas, and many people complained it was offensive. Presumably, he meant the Trump Tower Café which is selling the bowls, just for Cinco de Mayo.

But once the #brands – both before and especially after the rise of social media – discovered there was profit to be had by pushing light beers with a lime twist or cheap margarita specials for a single day, it was everywhere.

There’s a certain charm in how blatantly Trump is pandering to “Hispanics” here-the smile, the thumb, the delicious looking taco bowl and of course the message of love.

The taco bowl, with its healthy dollop of sour cream, sits on a white platter, which in turn sits on a stack of papers, including a New York Times.
