Trump’s VP choice compares mogul to Reagan

The Trump campaign won’t say who will speak when at the GOP convention in Cleveland this week.

“He fights for the people, and he’s going to fight for you”.

While that IN rally was understated, some IN attendance said they preferred it that way. “Hillary Clinton – you better believe it. Hillary Clinton is a crook”.

Pence, in sharp contrast to Trump, delivered a prepared speech, discussing the love of his wife and country and his adoration for Ronald Reagan.

The proposed ban is an example of where Trump differs from his pick for vice president. While presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s logo has been praised by many designers, it prompted intra-party grousing past year.

Ironically, I agree with all of those positions to varying degrees, but I recognize that these and similar positions he’s held make gays question a Trump-Pence ticket’s commitment to them.

Protesters say they’re also concerned with the pair’s stance on abortion and LGBT rights, not to mention, Mr Trump’s controversial rhetoric. “Don’t forget that decision was based on lies given to her”, Trump said of Hillary at the time.

And while his 60 Minutes interview, limiting though it was in timing and frame of questioning, at least bore some Trump hallmarks (shot at Trump Tower in New York City, the interview had both running mates seated in chairs topped with golden regalia), it also pushed him forcefully closer from “candidate” to “potential president”.

Trump presented Pence to the nation Saturday during a low-key rally, hailing the Pence as his “first choice” and “my partner in the campaign”.

The judgment as to whether or not Trump is or seems “presidential” will be left to the voters.

“It was a pick that clearly shows he is pivoting to the general election”, said Republican chairman Reince Priebus. He can not convince Americans that Trump is qualified to be commander-in-chief.

But confronted with his newly-tapped running mate’s own “yes” vote in 2002, the presumptive Republican nominee offered a very different response.

In that speech, the IN governor more conventionally referenced his upbringing and religious beliefs, and said that Trump was a “good man” as well as the leader that America needed, because, “The stakes could not be higher”. This could prove challenging when campaigning with Trump, who enthusiastically tears into his rivals.

Allies for the contenders have privately expressed concern that the closed-door nature of the proceedings could influence the outcome and prevent the party from putting forward the most electable candidate, but few will talk openly about behind-the-scenes angling.

Clinton intends to announce the plan on Monday in a speech to the NAACP convention in Cincinnati, followed by a stop at an OH voter registration event with volunteers.

Throughout the interview, Mr Pence claimed to endorse several of Mr Trump’s views that he has previously disagreed with, and insisted that he had confidence in the presumed Republican presidential candidate.
