Trump, Sanders win IN primaries

Bernie Sanders won Indiana’s Democratic primary Tuesday night, scoring a late victory over front-runner Hillary Clinton.

After winning Indiana, Sanders has 1,361 pledged delegates, according to the Associated Press’ count, and Clinton has 1,682, giving her a 321 delegate lead.

“It’s virtually impossible for Secretary Clinton to reach the majority of convention delegates by June 14 with pledged delegates alone”, Sanders said Sunday, according to the Washington Post. Sanders continue to decrease with each passing contest.

The drive to unite the Democratic Party is happening as the Republican presidential picture has come into focus. Bernie Sanders is right.

In Portland, Carlos Maibeth-Mortimer, of Brooklin, said he hopes Sanders keeps running until the national convention. “But I knew that he had won because it matters how many delegates you have, whether it’s 60 or 300”, Clinton told supporters at the California African American Museum. In the Republican primary, Donald Trump emerged as the party’s all but certain nominee with a decisive victory that forced his main challenger, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, out of the race.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Friday urged Democratic Party Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz not to stack the committees that will draft the rules and lay out the party platform at this summer’s Democratic National Convention.

The party chairman and vice chairwoman, previously uncommitted superdelegates, announced their support of Clinton in light of the caucus results, giving her the support of all five Guam superdelegates.

But because the state distributes delegates proportional to votes, it wasn’t a big delegate victory for Sanders. Without the superdelegates, Clinton will not get to 2,383, the number of delegates she needs to win on the first ballot. “They have been elected by the people of the state and to turn your back on them and say those views don’t matter is a little frustrating”. The Sanders campaign dug too deep of a hole for themselves.

“I do think he’ll be better than Hillary Clinton, I don’t think it’s a great set of choices”.

Clinton is just 165 delegates shy of the nomination on the surface, but that tally includes superdelegates, who are not locked in until they cast their vote in July.

In any case, the Clinton campaign is not anxious even if Sanders does upset Clinton here.

Trump said last Tuesday that the only thing keeping Clinton afloat in the race was a so-called “woman’s card”, a remark that quickly spawned the #WomanCard hashtag on Twitter.
