Trump says Cruz should resolve citizenship issue, can compete with Clinton

Speaking to radio host Howie Carr, Cruz continued the attacks, subtlety raising questions about Trump’s values.

Trump said the term has not been adjudicated, and advised Cruz to seek a judgment. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican, for the February 1 contest in Iowa, and he might come up short. The intensity escalated this past week when Trump questioned whether the Canadian-born Cruz was eligible to be president.

“You know we are gonna continue doing exactly what we are doing”, he said in a Charles City coffee shop Friday when the question came up again. The New York billionaire reiterated his ability to fund his own campaign and not be bought by outside influences, noting that “even his enemies are offering him money” he says he is turning away. His presidential primary campaign released his mother’s USA birth certificate over the weekend after denying she had become a Canadian citizen, although her name appears on a 1974 Canadian federal election voter roll.

Ah, what goes around comes around.

“No, I don’t intend to send jack boots to knock on your door and every door in America”, the GOP presidential hopeful said.

On Saturday, Trump lashed out at Cruz on multiple fronts at a rally in Ottumwa, expressing bafflement that he’s not beating Cruz in Iowa polls to a packed, 665-person capacity auditorium, with many more voters crowded into an overflow room. Cruz’s sharper rhetoric shows that the detente between the two has ended as they fight to win over voters less than a month before the state’s kick-off caucuses. Both have attracted overflow crowds: Trump at large halls and stadiums; Cruz in countless coffee shops, convenience stores, churches and diners.

“All of a sudden he was getting clobbered, and all of a sudden he said, ‘Ah, oh, I’m for ethanol.’ You can’t do that”.

“He should take it very seriously”.

“The child of a USA citizen born overseas is a natural-born citizen”, Cruz said. But the question of precisely what the Constitution means has never been fully explored by the courts.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, was born to a US military family in the Panama Canal Zone when it was a USA territory.

Cruz’s situation is quite different, in that he was actually born outside the US.

“We all know that everybody says they have a good turnout operation, but you really don’t find that out until caucus night when one candidate always has a little bit better turnout operation than the others”, Brown said. “I think I’m going to win”. “I’m not a constitutional scholar on that, but I think it’s worth looking into”.

“At the end”, Castellanos said, “Republicans may face the devil’s bargain and have to settle for the lesser of two anti-establishment evils”. “And according to one of the great lawyers of the country at Harvard, with strong opinions on this, the whole thing has not been-as he said, this matter has not been determined”.
