Trump Says He Was ‘Really Surprised’ By Paul Ryan’s Rebuff

Last year, all of the Republican presidential hopefuls, including Bush and Graham, signed a loyalty pledge in which they promised to back the final GOP nominee.

“I recognize that we have some people with a very strong skepticism of a Trump presidency, and I see that as a challenge”, Kaufmann told the Des Moines Register.

Former Republican nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney have indicated they plan to skip the party’s nominating convention July 18-21 in Cleveland. Trump inconspicuously announced the endorsement earlier on Friday at a rally in Omaha, Nebraska, as he ticked off the names of several prominent Republicans who have come around to his candidacy since he became the party’s presumptive nominee earlier this week. “The bulk of the burden on unifying the party will have to come from our presumptive nominee”, Ryan said.

“They need Trump and Trump needs them”, said Michael Steele, former RNC Chairman. “At some point, there’s going to be a conversation between Secretary Clinton and Senator Sanders about how we move toward the convention”.

Trump’s remaining rivals in the Republican race dropped out this week, clearing his path to be picked as the presidential nominee.

“If I got beaten as badly as I beat him, and all the other candidates he endorsed, I would not be able to give my support either”, he said.

“I do not believe he is a reliable Republican conservative nor has he displayed the judgment and temperament to serve as commander in chief”, he said in a statement.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough asked Carson, a retired neurosurgeon surgeon and former presidential hopeful, if the Trump camp would consider looking at Washington insiders to run alongside the outsider candidate.

But even as he pivoted to the general election, Trump jokingly bemoaned the end of a bitter primary season that saw him exchanging attack after attack with his Republican primary competitors.

Mr Trump responded, in a statement released by his campaign, that he was “not ready to support” Mr Ryan’s agenda as the party’s leader in the House.

No support for Donald Trump just yet.

The post concluded, “For Republicans, there is no greater priority than ensuring we keep control of both chambers of Congress. I look forward to working hard for great conservatives in the Senate and House in the coming months”.
