Trump says ‘Second Amendment people’ could stop Clinton from picking judges

The former reality TV star was quickly criticized by both Democrats and fellow conservatives after saying at a North Carolina campaign rally, “If she gets to pick her [Supreme Court] judges, nothing you can do folks”.

I’ve covered the Trump campaign for a while, and with a particular focus on his views on the Second Amendment.

After an afternoon of controversial and suggestive comments left open to interpretation, Donald Trump gave his attack line about Hillary Clinton and the Second Amendment another go.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation, or specifics, about the potential press event.

Jerry Stark wrote: “Trump may have been joking, but there were people listening to him that have a huge hatred for Clinton and would kill her”.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign spokesperson Robby Mook responded, “This is simple – what Trump is saying is risky”.

“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially, the Second Amendment”, he said.

He said: “Second amendment people have wonderful spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power”.

Al Baldasaro, who serves as an adviser for Trump’s campaign on veteran’s issues, after he called for Clinton to be executed for “treason” related to her use of a private email server.

Donald Trump addresses fans in Wilmington, North Carolina. “Just before that he was saying – as you said – ‘what could happen.’ He doesn’t want that to happen”, she replied. He was talking about unifying before the election to stop anti-2nd Amendment judges from being appointed by voting for Trump. “You know why? Because you’re Americans!” “Now I see. Donald Trump isn’t the upstanding, buccaneering individual I thought he was”.

The Secret Service – which is tasked with protecting both Mr Trump and Mrs Clinton – told U.S. media it was “aware” of the comments, but did not say whether they merited an investigation, which some Democratic lawmakers have said is necessary.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., one of the leading gun control advocates on Capitol Hill, cautioned against treating Trump’s remarks as a “political misstep”. This is a tremendous, political movement.

Clinton’s supporters are hoping the latest Trump trip-up will lead yet more of his fellow Republicans to defect.

Even some in the Wilmington crowd listening to Trump’s comments seemed shocked by the comment, while others laughed. “You are responsible for what people hear”.

Clinton spent Tuesday in Florida calling for emergency public health action on the Zika virus while visiting the Miami area dealing with the first US outbreak.

Gun rights, which have long stirred strong emotions in America, have been a particularly potent issue in the 2016 presidential campaign as violence has convulsed some US cities.

Here’s the full text of the speech that contained the remark, and in which he said of Clinton.

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence slammed Hillary Clinton Tuesday while praising Donald Trump as a “genuine article” who would not be a president cowed by political correctness. He then added, without elaboration, that Second Amendment supporters might be able to do something. He came under fire from within his party for belatedly endorsing fellow Republicans in re-election races and a prolonged clash with the parents of fallen Muslim American Army captain Humayun Khan.
