But further fanning controversy, Trump added that as president he would at least consider acknowledging Russian sovereignty over Crimea, the Ukrainian territory that Russia annexed in 2014 in the face of widespread global condemnation.
In an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC’s “This Week”, Trump said he would look into how Crimea broke away from Ukraine after a 2013 armed coup and voted in a referendum to rejoin Russian Federation.

Trump said he was not involved in Republicans’ softening of their platform language to remove a call to provide Ukraine with lethal weaponry.

Clinton, in her comments, was responding on “Fox News Sunday” to allegations of Russian involvement in leaks of Democratic Party emails that embarrassed her on the eve of the just-ended Democratic national convention. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing”, Trump told reporters.

Wallace asked her whether she thought Putin wanted to see Republican nominee Donald Trump beat her at the polls in November. “In fact, I didn’t even hear of it until after our convention was over”.
She said that “Russian intelligence services hacked into” computers at the Democratic Party national headquarters in Washington, claiming that they “arranged for a lot of those emails to be released” by WikiLeaks that showed party leaders favored her over her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, in the months-long campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
At the news conference, Trump said he “would be looking at” the possibility of lifting sanctions against Russian Federation tied to its annexation of Crimea, which the USA government refuses to accept.
“And for Trump to both encourage that and to praise Putin despite what appears to be a deliberate effort to try to affect the election, I think raises national security issues”, she continued.

Asked why he had said several times in the past that he had a relationship with Mr Putin, Mr Trump said he did not know what “having a relationship” meant. He is completely uninformed about what is going on the world.
