Trump seeks $10M from ex-aide who allegedly violated nondisclosure pact

Sam Nunberg, in a legal answer to a $10 million lawsuit claiming Nunberg violated a confidentiality agreement, said Trump may have illegally funneled corporate money into the campaign, and created a fictitious company that was listed as a plaintiff in the lawsuit.

In Nunberg’s affidavit obtained by CNN, Nunberg says he did not provide the New York Post with any information concerning “that embarrassing and lurid event” between Trump’s then-campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, and its current spokeswoman, Hope Hicks.

“Mr. Nunberg is being harassed by the Trump Campaign for exercising free speech and voicing his opinion on material issues that the public is entitled to before voting” in November, the court filing asserts. The Republican candidate has also said that he is considering such a measure for his staff in the White House if his is elected.

Washington Post political reporter Robert Costa says Nunberg is an associate of Roger Stone, a controversial top political adviser who also left the campaign.

The Daily Beast reported in 2015 that “the threat of legal action has not stopped Nunberg from speaking his mind about Trump”, and that Trump sent the former aide a cease and desist notice.

Nunberg served twice as Trump’s political consultant before cutting ties in April 2015.

Nunberg referred all questions to his attorney, Andrew Miltenberg, who told U.S. News the arbitration’s proximity to the beginning of the Republican National Convention was “no coincidence”. Also unclear is why an NDA signed by Nunberg a year ago would prevent him from discussing things he’s learned about the campaign many months after he left it, especially an argument between Hicks and Lewandowski “in plain view of passersby on 61st Street near Park Avenue”.

CNN anchor Don Lemon revealed that Lewandowski was “still receiving severance from the Trump campaign”. Okay, but there’s a cost/benefit calculation there: How likely is it that letting Nunberg (if he’s the source of the Post story) slide would have done more damage to Trump’s campaign than injecting this sideshow into the media will do, especially at a moment when Trump’s getting ready to choose his VP and accept the nomination?

Garten told the AP that Nunberg’s allegations about Hicks and Lewandowski are “categorically untrue”.

And he says Trump is furious over his decision to endorse one of the former reality television star’s primary rivals, Texas Sen.

But he clashed with other campaign staffers and was viewed by GOP leaders as unprepared to oversee a general election campaign. “The case is spelled out in court documents that sought to block private arbitration proceedings that Trump initiated in May”.

“The Trump Campaign was not in existence prior to or at the time of the agreement, and Mr. Nunberg did not agree or intend that it apply to any future entity such as the Trump Campaign”, Nunberg’s complaint said.

The petition was filed on Tuesday in NY state court in Manhattan.

In a separate affidavit, Nunberg’s mother, Rebecca Citron Nunberg, said the entity bringing the claim against her son is not registered in the state of NY, depriving it of its ability to pursue legal claims against him.
