Trump has signalled that he wanted an experienced politician to help his presidential ticket because he is a political outsider with no experience in governing.

“I also admire the fact that he fights for the people and he also is going to fight for you”.

Pence was quiet and low-key for much of the interview, while Trump cut in to answer questions intended for the governor. “Let me say from my heart …”

But they’re having no trouble getting behind Trump’s newly announced running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Trump also offered new details about why he selected Pence as his running mate.

The presumptive Republican nominee introduced the IN governor at a Manhattan hotel two days before the start of the Republican National Convention.

Trump based NAFTA, signed under President Bill Clinton and a regular target for him in his anti-free trade campaign position, but didn’t note that Pence has a long history of voting for free trade.

Christie also indirectly criticized former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who was also considered for a spot on the GOP ticket.

Pence had been in a tight re-election bid for governor and faced a Friday deadline to withdraw from that race in order to run for vice president instead.
