Trump Staffer Apologizes for ‘Innocent Mistake’ of Plagiarized Speech, Offered to Resign

Donald Trump, the billionaire businessman whose outsider campaign has both galvanized millions of voters and divided the Republican Party, is the 2016 GOP presidential nominee.

After weeks of planning and one ferocious outburst that upstaged almost everything on the Republican National Convention’s first day, conservatives’ feisty but always improbable effort to deny Donald Trump the GOP presidential nomination succumbed to multiple causes of death.

“It is my honor to be able to throw Donald Trump over the top in the delegate count tonight with 89 delegates”, Donald Jr. said, surrounded by three of Trump’s other children – Ivanka, Eric and Tiffany.

Good evening from Cleveland.

Mike Pence also became the Republican vice presidential nominee. I will work hard and never let you down! “In my opinion, we’ve had first ladies that stood out and that America truly kind of loved”.

Day 2 of the convention was largely consumed by controversy over the speech that Melania Trump gave on opening night.

When the roll call reached NY, with fewer than 1,100 delegates amassed, leaders passed so that the Trump’s home state could put him over the top.

The controversy raised questions about the Trump campaign’s attention to detail as he squares off against the larger, more organized operation of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and seeks to win the job of president on November 8. House Speaker Paul Ryan, who resisted calls to jump into the presidential race, made a vigorous call for party unity – though his message focused more on the risks of letting Democrats keep the White House and make gains in Congress than a rationale for Trump.

Donald Trump’s campaign has hit back at claims of plagiarism surrounding his wife’s speech to the Republican National Convention yesterday.

“Don’t tell me words don’t matter”, he said in his remarks.

Trump’s campaign has been marked by frequent controversy over his rhetoric on Muslims, Hispanics, illegal immigration and trade, alarming many in the Republican establishment.

“It’s just another example, as far as we’re concerned, that when Hillary Clinton is threatened by a female, the first thing she does is try to destroy the person”.

The theme of Tuesday’s convention event was “Make America Work Again”, and speakers were to take aim at Obama’s record on the economy.

Then, one by one, each state and territory put forth its delegates for the candidate.

The Republican National Committee chief strategist Sean Spicer told CNN Mrs Trump was as likely to be influenced by the popular animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, as by Mrs Obama.

A wealthy NY real estate developer and a reality TV celebrity, the 70-year-old Trump was a long shot when he entered the race for the Republican nomination more than a year ago, having never held elected office.

Trump’s Democratic rival, Clinton, who has been the target of withering verbal attacks during the convention, was quick to respond to the vote.

Clinton was due to be formally nominated at a Democratic convention next week in Philadelphia.

Speaking with CNN’s Dana Bash right afterward, Trump Jr. said: “I watched him work so hard and speak to so many real people who are feeling left out”. But 30 seconds of her speech seemed very familiar to lots of people.

Security forces were on high alert in Cleveland. Wright State University, a public university near Dayton, Ohio, said on Tuesday it had decided not to host the first U.S. presidential debate scheduled for September 26, citing mounting costs and security concerns.
