Trump surges in support, almost even with Clinton in national US poll
Eric Fehrnstrom, who was a senior adviser to 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney, said a Quinnipiac University poll showing Trump running even with Clinton in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, all critical swing states, would boost his standing with Republicans, and said the party’s July 18-21 national convention in Cleveland would give him a chance to reset perceptions.

“He’s the nominee. I’ll do whatever he wants in respect to the convention”, Ryan said, insisting that the party must strive to unify, and Trump must lead the effort.
“This election is too important to go into an election at half strength”, Ryan said. “I will raise whatever we need”, Trump, 69, told Fox News in an interview yesterday after his primary wins in West Virginia and Nebraska.
Over the last six months the overwhelming majority of the Republican party has said that Donald Trump is exactly what is needed to change the way politics are played in Washington.
Trump and Ryan are scheduled to meet Thursday in Washington. Steve Daines and Rep. Ryan Zinke are distancing themselves from GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, choosing to deflect their criticism to Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.
Still, good news is good news – and can only help Trump in his drive to rally Republicans behind him.
Among all voters, 30% say the Republican Party should be more like Trump, while 39% say it should be more like Ryan. Ryan also said he is eager to get to know Trump. It really does not matter who it is because those pushing for a third candidate do not care about winning; they just want to make sure Mr. Trump loses. “And I think we’re going to have very positive results”.
His likely November opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, still has Sen. The main concern, we suspect, is predictability, or Trump’s lack thereof. “We just didn’t”, he said.
Chairman and CEO of Dune Capital Management, a private investment firm, Mnuchin is said to be well connected in the Hollywood and Wall Street, industries with uncertain loyalties to Republican presidential candidate. But 36% of Democrats and 27% of unaffiliateds prefer neither Ryan nor Trump.
“Both of us have said we want to be there, we want to support our nominee, but as long as he takes some of these positions it makes it very hard”, Flake said.
Trump and Ryan are to meet Thursday, days after the speaker – the nation’s top elected Republican – withheld his endorsement.
Trump is yet to comment on Ryan’s latest remarks but shot back against the speaker when he decided not to endorse him immediately.
Some Republicans also have been rankled by some of Trump’s policy proposals, including his declaration that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is obsolete and his call to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country.
Ryan defended his stance anew Tuesday, insisting that he was just being honest in saying Trump had more work to do to show he could unify the party after alienating numerous voters including women, Hispanics and many conservatives.

Absent a viable Republican alternative, there were new signs on Capitol Hill that Trump’s conservative critics were beginning to fall in line.
