Trump surrogates struggle to speak for him
Speaking to Fox News on Sunday, nearly a full month before the first presidential debate takes place on September 26 at New York’s Hofstra University, Johnson asserted that he could majorly impact the scope – and the result – of the race if he does manage to clear the debate hurdle.

So we’re optimistic that we’re going to actually get into the debates.
As Gary Johnson himself said, if he manages to reach the debate stage in NY, he might be able to do what no third-party candidate has been able to do in the history of the United States presidential elections.
“If Governor Gary Johnson continues to rise in the polls, and if they allow him into the presidential debate, then all bets are off; anything is possible; he could win the presidency because he is one against two candidates that are tremendously unpopular”, said the executive director for the Libertarian National Committee.
“The object is to win outright”.
“We’re spending money right now in many states”. In five states right now, I’m at 16 percent. “If we go into the presidential debates with the polarization” associated with both Clinton and Trump, “we might actually run the table on all this”.
“I know that just sounds insane, but we would not be doing this if we didn’t think that. that possibility exists”, he said.
Howell further suggested that the Libertarian candidate would surprise the public by taking the stage at debates against Trump and Clinton.
Johnson was governor of New Mexico, Weld of MA.
A hard exchange followed on Johnson’s policies on immigration, tax, a balanced federal budget and the use of American force, the candidate repeating that he was “not getting elected dictator or king” and Wallace countering that “when you say we’re not going to be elected dictator, you’re saying, ‘Don’t take my policies seriously because they won’t get through'”.
“You know how insane this election cycle is”, he said.
“That’s why I’m on”, he said.

“There we go”, Johnson said.
