However, Pence was less willing to say that Trump should apologize for spreading the birther theory, even if he doesn’t believe it – nor does Pence believe Trump’s remarks will hurt the candidate’s reputation among minority voters.
Mr. Trump has been an advocate of charter schools, which have been championed in OH by Republican political leaders, while Mrs. Clinton has been an advocate for traditional public education and is backed by public school teacher unions.
At the Republican National Convention in Cleveland Mr. Trump said, “We will rescue kids from failing schools by helping their parents send them to a safe school of their choice”.
“I think people don’t care”, Trump said Monday afternoon in Ohio.
Trump was perhaps the highest-profile “birther” back in 2011, when he repeatedly raised questions about Obama’s birthplace.
Speaking to reporters Monday, Trump said he no longer discusses the matter as it distracts from more pressing issues. “Mike Pence is a great friend and a true conservative, and I’m grateful that he’s coming to rally our members down the homestretch”.
