Trump planned to make a display of solidarity on Wednesday with his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, a social conservative who is at odds with the NY businessman on many issues.

Cleveland Police arrested 17 people for assaults on officers and failure to disperse after a US flag was set on fire outside the Republican National Convention on Wednesday afternoon, but legal observers are disputing the police narrative of the incident.

Taking in the third night of the Republican National Convention in the Newsradio 950 studios was the chairman of the political science department at Oakland University Professor Dave Dulio. I am also a longtime friend and admirer of the Trump family. It was his home state of NY who put him over the top, his son Donald Junior at the mic to make the announcement.

His supporters clung to hope that that the convention would adopt rules that would free delegates to disregard the results of state contests and swing behind Cruz at the 11th hour. ABC News coverage of the Republican National Convention Once again, the Trump campaign finds itself on the defensive.

In a statement, McIver said she had inserted passages into the Melania Trump speech that resembled parts of a 2008 speech by first lady Michelle Obama to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, when Barack Obama was in his first campaign for the presidency.

The governor, a dropout in the GOP presidential race who ended up on the short list for Trump’s running mate, energized the hall as he ticked through numerous accusations of wrongdoing against Clinton and implored delegates to shout “guilty”. Trump-Pence may be a match made in politics, but this could be the beginning of a handsome friendship.

One source familiar with the campaign inner circle’s thinking but not authorized to speak publicly said Trump, his relatives and closest advisers were angry at Cruz and had expected, while not an endorsement, a warmer embrace of the nominee and less showmanship from the senator. During the primary, Cruz called the businessman a “pathological liar” and “utterly amoral”.

Speaking after Cruz, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tried to do damage control.

In a potentially embarrassing admission for the Trump campaign, speechwriter McIver said in her statement that Michelle Obama is a person that Melania Trump “has always liked”.

“I did not check Mrs Obama’s speeches”. This was my mistake and I feel bad for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs Obama.

“Flag burning as a means of speech is protected, it has been argued in a number of court cases all the way up to the Supreme Court”, Rosnick said.

After two nights of low-energy speeches, the crowd packed into the arena was noticeably more energetic Wednesday night, dancing in the aisles and waving signs reading, “America Deserves Better Than Hillary”.

Eight years ago, Mrs. Obama said: “And Barack and I were raised with so numerous same values: like, you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond, that you do what you say you’re going to do, that you treat people with dignity and respect”.

Republicans vow that in a Trump administration, the USA will reclaim its historic role in the world. Straying from tradition, Trump, the presumptive nominee, has made an appearance of some sort in the conventions host city each day of the convention. One of them, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, called Cruz “totally selfish”. “Lock her up!” Failed Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson went so far as to associate Clinton with Lucifer.

Asked what he would do if Russia came over the the border into Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania, Mr. Trump said he didn’t want to say because he doesn’t want Russian President Vladimir Putin to know what he would do, according to a transcript of the interview. The chaos delayed delegates and members of the media from getting into the arena for the evening’s proceedings.
