Trump to meet with Egyptian president Monday: campaign

It said Clinton also met briefly with Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and then Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. In the first year of his reign, Egyptian authorities “detained, charged, or sentenced at least 41,000 people”.

Clinton addressed prickly topics with each world leader, according to aides in the room. Mr. Trump and President el-Sisi discussed the strategic bilateral relationship between the US and Egypt focusing on political, military and economic cooperation between the two countries.

In a release titled “Hillary’s Foreign Policy: A Before And After Look At The World”, the Trump campaign highlighted Egypt as a stable US ally prior to Mrs. Clinton’s tenure atop the State Department.

Trump’s meeting with Sisi will take place at the end of the day, according to a campaign official.

The report disclosed that shortly after Cinton met with Sisi at a Manhattan hotel, Trump also visited the African leader in the same hotel.

The candidates’ meetings came just two days after an Egyptian court agreed to freeze the personal and organizational assets of some of Egypt’s premiere human rights organizations, on specious charges that they pose a threat to national security.

She also questioned Trump’s business record, saying she was “facing a candidate with a long history of racial discrimination in his businesses”.

Clinton said Trump doesn’t have any real plans to fight terrorism.

Speaking to reporters Monday before leaving for a campaign event, the Democratic presidential nominee said the Islamic State group and others are using Trump’s message to “recruit more fighters”.

The Republican presidential nominee told “Fox and Friends” that “I should be a newscaster because I called it before the news”.

For her part, Clinton has chose to forgo the standard foreign tour as a candidate because her aides feel she doesn’t need to burnish her foreign policy credentials. Putin, who Trump has spoken of favorably in the recent past, is not expected to attend this year’s General Assembly.

Clinton’s adviser said that she believed that Washington needed to do more to stand up to Russian “aggression” in Ukraine and to allow the Kiev government to defend itself.

Sisi met with both Trump and Clinton, separately, in NY this week. Clinton was more vocal, calling for Egypt to release imprisoned US-citizen Aya Hijazi and to take greater action to prevent human rights abuses.

Clinton’s adviser cautioned that the meeting on Monday did not augur any kind of policy change towards Egypt. “There can be a solution with the Palestinians by establishing a Palestinian state next to Israel that will preserve peace and security for both the nations”.

The Christian rallies – involving a few hundred people, many waving Egyptian flags or carrying posters of el-Sissi – were meant to show popular support for the president and discourage followers of Mohammed Morsi, the Islamist president he removed in 2013, from staging protests against his rule.

It won the majority of parliamentary votes in the 2012 election that followed the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak at the height of the Arab Spring, but failed to keep support among the public after issuing authoritarian decrees and failing to institute reforms. Responding simply, Sisi said “no doubt”.

He’s also already planning invites for future White House state visits and foreign trips aboard Air Force One.
