Trump to open his golf resort day after European Union vote
The protests will be held under the banner “Scotland against Trump”.

Though Cameron said last week he would be happy to meet Trump, telling ITV he believed in maintaining the much vaunted “special relationship” between the two nations, Downing Street has said the PM has no plans to meet the White House hopeful on his June 24 visit.
A Scottish Government spokesman said: “The First Minister does not plan to meet Donald Trump on this visit”.
A source said: “Candidates often come through the country”.
Although Mr Trump has the votes necessary to win his party’s nomination he will not be officially chosen until the Republican convention in Cleveland, Ohio, in the middle of July.
Trump has previously agreed with the United Kingdom leaving the European Union, saying in May that if he were British, he would “want to go back to a different system”.
“I know it’s largely down to the stars who play in the event but to have a canvas like that to present them upon I would hope have some allure from the R&A”.
But he is expected to face a string of protests over comments he has made including that women should be punished for having abortions and a ban on Muslims entering America.
He added that “dozens of organisations” would support Scotland Against Trump actions during the visit.
The protests are being co-ordinated by Jonathon Shafi, from the left-wing alliance Rise, who organised an occupation of Trump hotels earlier this year. However, he did leave open the possibility to meet with Trump.
The property developer, whose mother Mary MacLeod was born on Stornoway, has always maintained Scotland was his first choice for a golf resort due to his family ties and the recognition of the country as the home of golf. Trump bought the club in 2014 before selling off its fixtures and fittings and renovating it. The refurbishment includes upgrades to 103 guest rooms, suites and a lighthouse turned into a presidential suite.
Speaking about the golf resort, Donald said: “Very exciting that one of the great resorts of the world, Turnberry, will be opening today after a massive £200 million investment”.
“If he came to visit our country, I think he would unite us all against him”, Cameron said. “A lot of what’s happened – and I’ve dealt with the European Union”. No dates are fixed.

“He is potentially a very unsafe man and we will make it clear to the rest of the world that Scotland will not tolerate him”.
