Trump to speak with leaders of Russia, Germany, France: White House
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged better business ties and cooperation in fighting the Islamic State, the Kremlin said, as the pair seek to reverse tension between Moscow and the previous USA administration after allegations that Russian hackers sought to sway the US election.

McCain’s warning comes a day before Trump is scheduled to talk to President Vladimir Putin by phone. He is reaching out to fix the U.S. “If we can have a great relationship with Russian Federation and with China, then I’m all for that”.
Trump’s critics believe he wouldn’t even be in a position to call Putin had it not been for Russian Federation meddling.
Vice President Mike Pence, chief of staff Reince Priebus, chief White House strategist Steve Bannon and National Security Adviser Michael Flynn were in the Oval Office during the call. The two leaders have been routinely criticized by Trump for not being tougher on terrorism and immigration, a view echoed by right-wing opposition parties in France and Germany, both of which face national elections this year.
He said he hopes the US can forge a partnership with Russian Federation to defeat the Islamic State.
The president also plans to speak today with French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Trump and Abe also discussed an upcoming visit to Japan and other countries in the region by newly installed Defense Secretary James Mattis.
Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump want “real coordination” against Islamic State in Syria, according to the Kremlin.
“That’s called an asset, not a liability”, Trump said before his inauguration.
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are to speak on Saturday, sources from both countries have confirmed.
“We have no illusions that there will be a new reset with the United States”, Lavrov cautioned. But Putin has also been chafing under US and European sanctions imposed by President Obama over Russia’s invasion of Crimea and the computer hacking of Democratic party email accounts during the campaign. If they don’t and we end up with sanctions relief being thrown in as part of a deal on areas of mutual cooperation, then it really will be tantamount to the USA lifting sanctions in return for nothing.
“Very early to be talking about that”, Trump said during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May. And she added that she continues to argue that position “inside the European Union”.
Many Democrats, most notably Georgia U.S. Rep. John Lewis, believe Trump isn’t a legitimate president, elected only because of Russia’s hacking of Hillary Clinton campaign officials’ email accounts.
The Kremlin has welcomed Trump’s promises to mend ties with Moscow, which also has been badly strained by the war in Syria.
There is reason to expect Trump to announce shake-ups in the US approach to Russian Federation.
That led to a legal, political, and media pressure on activists, many of whom have emigrated since 2012, and on independent civil society organisations which were subject to restrictions by a new “foreign agents” law.
Trump told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published on January 13 that he would maintain the sanctions on Russian Federation “at least for a period of time” but left the door open to lifting them if there was improved relations and cooperation between the countries. That’s possible. And it’s also possible we won’t.
Reports from the USA said Mr Trump might tell Mrs Merkel he was reviewing the sanctions, but this was not confirmed.
Asked by Fox News whether the issue would be “on the table right away”, Conway replied, “All of that is under consideration”. He stressed that it is an initial contact, saying that “one should hardly expect that this phone call will involve substantive discussions across the whole range of issues”.
Reuters quoted an unnamed source in Berlin as saying that Merkel’s conversation with Trump was expected to focus on Russian Federation. “Let us be patient”.
