Trump tops Clinton in national poll for first time since May

Following the Republican National Convention, Trump experienced a bounce in national polls, now leading Clinton in the race for the White House. Although the odds of a November victory are still in her favor, they’re shrinking.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has spent time on the campaign trail bashing NAFTA and other trade agreements.

These bumps in the poll numbers are generally modest-usually no more than a couple points-but Donald Trump’s post-convention bump this week has pundits wondering if there’s something bigger happening.

Trump has only gained 1 point since the convention, indicating Republicans’ harsh comments about Clinton scared some of her supporters, but did not bring in many undecided voters, 24 percent of whom remain unaffiliated.

That’s according to the CNN poll, and it’s her worst number on-record.

Pennsylvania-hasn’t been polled since July 11, when Clinton held a 3.2-point lead that was shrinking. Unlikely as that may be, they’ll be accomplishing much the same thing if they sit the election out because their candidate didn’t win. However, the gap has been narrowing there too.

The convention also drew increased interest from three in 10 Democrats and six in 10 people who leaned Republican.

The Democrats’ convention in Philadelphia ends on Thursday. There were chants of “lock her up” and plenty of accusations lodged against Clinton. The more politically courageous move would be to seek out a third-party candidate, like Jill Stein of the Green Party. That dynamic is also gathering the attention of odds makers.

In this week’s CNN/ORC poll, 40% of American women view Trump favorably. It is not to be confused with polls from real voters.

You heard that right: Trump – he of the many, many Pinocchios – now has a large lead on Clinton when it comes to honesty and trustworthiness.

Presidential candidates usually get a boost in popularity following their party conventions.

After Democratic Party officials learned their systems were attacked in late April, they sought the help of the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike Inc., which then discovered traces of at least two sophisticated hacking groups on the Democrats’ network – both of which have ties to the Russian government.

North Carolina-hasn’t been polled since July 11, when Clinton held a two-point lead that was holding steady. Just 49 per cent say they prefer Clinton – down from 55 per cent a month ago. Her award-winning work has appeared in numerous magazine, newspaper, and online publications.
