Trump tries to woo Bernie backers, but they’re not buying it
PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Comedian Sarah Silverman said her on-stage denunciation Monday night of Bernie Sanders supporters who aren’t yet backing Hillary Clinton as “ridiculous” was unplanned.

The comedienne, a leading celebrity supporter of Sanders when he was seeking the Democratic presidential nod, endorsed Clinton to the Democratic national convention here on Monday night.
When Silverman finished her speech with a joke, the crowd erupted, loudly chanting “Bernie!”
Having been a vocal and fervent supporter of Sanders throughout the primary election, Silverman made a passionate plea to her fellow Sanders supporters about what they had achieved during the primary. Although trust me, you will get bilked.
As the audience cheered and jeered, the chants of Bernie and Hillary gliding over one another, Silverman continued.
Those crowd-members also led the loudest cheers of the night, by far, when Bernie took the stage, making him the only person who had to wait for the crowd to die down before he could speak. Now she’s voting for Hillary Clinton, because she’s not a lunatic, and gave an excellent speech at the DNC.
After a first day shot through with a sense of betrayal and injustice at the Democratic national convention, it took a comedian to articulate the feeling of tragedy gripping Bernie Sanders supporters.
After finishing her prepared remarks, Silverman was urged to “stretch”, as the next act – a performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Paul Simon – was not yet ready to begin.
But she says all of that will be lost if Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, is elected president. That’s like major arrested development stuff, that’s “I’m still emotionally four and calling other people names from my golden-crusted sandbox because I was given money instead of human touch or coping tools” stuff.
I think it would be important to underline that when you say officials, we’re really talking about the chair of the DNC (Debbie Wasserman Schultz) and her staff.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, a Clinton backer, sought to heal some of the division with a prime-time speech that hit on many issues Sanders advocated during the primary, including economic inequality.

Near a “Bernie or bust” rally across from Philadelphia City Hall on Tuesday, Fowler said he will vote for Green Party candidate Jill Stein rather than Clinton or Trump.
