Women whose employers don’t offer paid maternity leave will be entitled to six weeks off with compensation, the campaign said, with the money coming from existing unemployment insurance. More than 40 percent of US taxpayers don’t make enough money to owe taxes to the federal government, meaning they would not benefit from a deduction.

Asked whether her depiction of the Trump Organization offers paid maternity leave for “all of the thousands of employees”, Ivanka replied, “It is”.

In a car-crash interview with Cosmopolitan, Ivanka Trump was challenged on the plan’s explicit exclusion of paternity leave, which effectively discriminates against families where one or both parents are men.

It’s still the same-old neo-feudal billionaire cartel it’s always been and it cares about one thing and one thing alone: preserving the power and wealth of the 1 percent at all costs.

Trump would also allow caregivers to claim an above-the-line deduction of up to $5,000 to cover home health care, adult day care or similar services for an elderly family member. Under her plan, workers would receive up to two-thirds of their current wages, up to a ceiling, while on leave. Federal law allows 12 weeks of unpaid “family leave”.

Trump’s campaign says this will be paid for through program savings by eliminating improper payments (i.e. fraud).

The costs of child care can put a tremendous burden on middle-class and lower-income families, she said, and added that the United States is the only industrialized nation that does not provide mothers with paid maternity leave. Clinton’s senior policy advisor Maya Harris commented on Trump’s plan, stating,”We’re not living in a “Mad Men” era anymore, where only women are taking care of infants”. “We believe that our plan makes great strides toward doing so”, a campaign official said Tuesday morning. And Ivanka was always saying, “Dad, we’ve got to do something about child care”. But a once-a-year-check from the government is not always helpful for families struggling week-to-week to pay their childcare bills.

At his Tuesday speech, Trump will be introduced by his daughter Ivanka, arguably his most effective female surrogate, who surprised many at the Republican National Convention when she used her address to declare that her father’s administration would “focus on making quality child care affordable and accessible for all”. Critics argued a wealthy parent could deduct the cost of a nanny, while working mothers whose income falls below the income tax threshold would see no benefit.
