Trump vows to ‘put America first’

CLEVELAND – (UPDATE 4 – 11:30 a.m.) NY billionaire Donald Trump on Thursday formally accepted the Republican Party nomination for president, vowing to defeat Hillary Clinton in November and claim victory in the USA general election.

Pointing to Trump’s belief that America is in decline and only he can fix it, Clinton argued that Americans are problem-solvers who build bridges not walls. “I can understand his reluctance to endorse”.

Delegates from Trump’s home state praised the candidate’s 75-minute speech, offering positive reviews late Thursday as they navigated an arena floor filled with thousands of balloons and a coating of red, white and blue confetti.

“My father not only has the strength and ability to be our next president, but the kindness and compassion that will enable him to be the leader this country needs”, she said.

“And I thought he’s going to do it”. As for Cruz’s father, Trump cited a National Enquirer story linking Cruz’s father to Lee Harvey Oswald. “Now Ted never denied that it was his father”.

Then Trump bore in on Cruz, calling his non-endorsement “dishonorable” before revisiting the hubbub over the celebrity businessman’s March retweet of a post that juxtaposed an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz with a glamor shot of Trump’s wife, Melania, a former model. And on Thursday, Cruz referenced the incident, as he drew an angry reaction from members of his state’s own GOP delegation.

“There are still a lot of people at the convention and within the party who are not sure where he’s going to stand”. She serves executive vice president of Development & Acquisitions at The Trump Organization and is considered to be an extremely close confidante of her father. “See, to me, that’s dishonorable”.

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump called this year’s Republican convention in Cleveland “one of the best ever”, and thanked the people of Cleveland for what he called “an incredible four days”.

In addition to the tweets, Clinton also introduced a “Trump Yourself” app, in which users can superimpose insults like “fat pig” and “slob”, that the 70-year-old has hurled at people over the years, over their Facebook profile pics. The ad was put out by a PAC with no official ties to the Cruz campaign, but Trump said Friday that he doesn’t buy that.

“All right guys, right this way”, an officer said, opening a lane in the security line to accommodate Turner Fair, of Cleveland, who was carrying the Trump-like pig. Cruz entered the stage to a standing ovation, but as it became clear that he was sticking to his principled brand of conservatism, some delegates began shouting “endorse Trump”. “But if he did, it’s fine”, Trump said. Maybe I can be Attorney General or Solicitor General.

In a Friday morning appearance at the Westin Hotel with his family, friends and running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Trump applauded the unity displayed at the convention.
