Trump vows to undo Obama’s climate agenda in appeal to oil sector

“Trump’s energy policies would accelerate climate change, protect corporate polluters who profit from poisoning our air and water, and block the transition to clean energy that is necessary to strengthen our economy and protect our climate and health”, he said.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks on Thursday during the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck, N.D. “It’s gotten out of control”.

In contrast to Trump, who has described climate change as a “hoax”, Clinton has said it is “clearly man-made and man-aggravated”.

Trump also said that as president he would invite the Canadian company TransCanada to reapply for a permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline from the oil sands of Alberta to southern Nebraska, where it would link to other pipelines. “We’re going to save that coal industry, believe me”, he said.

Trump says if he is elected President of the United States, “We’ll accomplish a complete America energy independence”, adding, “and lots of jobs”. Clinton has said she made “a misstatement” and has a plan to help displaced coal workers.

“Actually I sort of like her in the race – I want to run against her”, he said.

Trump’s positions are further complicated by a recent Politico report that shows his organization cited global warming as justification to build a coastal structure to prevent erosion at a golf course in Ireland. He recently told a Reuters reporter he would renegotiate an agreement hashed out by almost 200 countries in Paris, France past year.

He contradicted his campaign manager and chief strategist, Paul Manafort, who said earlier today that Trump would probably not pick a woman or a minority as his vice president because it would be seen as pandering.

“I will be looking at that very, very seriously, and at a minimum I will be renegotiating those agreements, at a minimum”.

“I’m so honored by these people”, Trump said, with the delegates lined up behind him.

“If you ask our members, they’ll tell you that America never stopped being great”, said spokesman Kevin Pranis. “Not a big fan because other countries don’t adhere to it, and China doesn’t adhere to it, and China’s spewing into the atmosphere”.

“Disconnecting the USA from the global energy market would be very damaging and harmful to both US consumers and USA producers”, he said.

Not the case, Trump said, promising that many women would be included in the process.

Trump emphasized that he wants the federal government “to get out of the way” of the energy industry, including coal, which he accused both Obama and Clinton as trying to shut down.

“Oil and natural gas production is up significantly in the last decade”, Trump began, saying this has occurred in spite of bureaucratic barriers.

North Dakota Democrats issued statements Thursday blasting the state’s Republican for supporting Trumps “brand of fear, ignorance, and hatred”.

Trump briefly revisited his frequent routine of pointing to Clinton’s comment that she would put coal miners out of work and then bragged to the North Dakota crowd about his popularity in Appalachia.

The 24th annual petroleum conference features dozens of speakers, from politicians to top oil company executives, and industry-specific seminars. He has dismissed climate change as a hoax, promised to renegotiate the United Nations global climate accord, and vowed a revival in the USA coal industry, which has been hobbled by low prices and rules that limit pollution emissions.
