Trump walks back call to punish women who undergo illegal abortions

He said abortion law is “set” and, “I think we have to leave it that way”.

His initial comments made during an interview on cable network MSNBC sparked a wave of criticism.

After the taping, the Trump campaign issued a statement saying that Trump believes the issue should rest with the states. My position has not changed – like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions.

Speaking to MSNBC on Wednesday, the Republican Presidential frontrunner said he supports criminal punishments for women who have abortions.

In an excerpt broadcast Friday on “CBS Evening News”, Trump said about abortion: “The laws are set”.

“I mean, I do have my opinions on it. I just don’t think it’s an appropriate forum”, said Trump. He faced a backlash for comments about rival Ted Cruz’s wife and managed to displease both sides in the abortion debate with his now-retracted comment that women who get abortions should be punished.

Mr Kasich – the popular governor of OH – also questioned whether Mr Trump had the temperament needed for the office of the president.

“I do not have, I have money from people who work for fossil fuel companies”, Clinton said.

Trump said he could do without Cruz’s support.

“There’s nothing else to say, as Donald Trump’s remarks today have said it all”, she said. Trump has been largely rebuffed by the party establishment, which has been alarmed by campaign pledges such as imposing a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States and building a wall along the border with Mexico.

The US presidential hopeful insisted he would not “take any cards off the table” and said there could “possibly” come a time when they would need to be used.

I knew that when I stepped out for a few days, I’d be missing out on some hot garbage from Donald Trump.

He followed up with a second statement saying a doctor carrying out the illegal act would be responsible not the woman – the woman is a victim in this case as is the life in the womb.

Trump is already having trouble with women voters.

Matthews pressed Trump on how quick he would be with his trigger finger in regards to the potential use of nuclear weapons. This has raised doubts among many Republican strategists about whether he could win a general election against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, who is trying to become the first female president and leads Trump by double digits in the polls.

On Saturday, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd published a conversation she had with Trump in which she took him to task for his misogynist behavior, such as sharing a meme that made fun of Heidi Cruz’s appearance.
