Trump wins decisively in South Carolina, Clinton clinches Nevada

The Trump win drove Mr Bush, once the frontrunner, who was counting on his family’s broad popularity in SC, out of the race.

UPDATE: With 99% of the vote in, Trump earned 32.5% of the vote. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, accompanied by his wife Heidi, right, pauses while speaking at his South Carolina primary night rally at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds in Columbia, S.C., Saturd…

“What a great night”. In fact, Kasich has already turned his attention to delegate-rich Super Tuesday states which will vote on March 1, and is in MA watching results tonight, not SC. Put another way, Sanders needs win 57% of the remaining delegates to capture the nomination.

He urged conservatives to rally around his campaign, saying pointedly: “We are the only candidate who has beaten and can beat Donald Trump”.

‘Well, that report is false, ‘ Rubio said on CNN’s State of the Union.

Meanwhile, Mr Cruz said he was best positioned to challenge Mr Trump after his previous win over the billionaire businessman in Iowa.

Then Trump had his daughter, Ivanka Trump, speak to his supporters. “The momentum since the beginning of this campaign has been unbelievable….” “When you’re the commander-in-chief, you’re the commander-in-chief on day one”. This reinforces the idea that the traditional way of winning a campaign, the un-Trump way, isn’t doing much good in 2016.

“A number of the pundits said, ‘Well, if a couple of the other candidates drop out, if you add their scores together it’s going to equal Trump, ‘” he said. “There’s nothing easy about running for president, I can tell you”.

The public mood has upended the usual political order, giving Sanders and Trump openings while leaving more traditional candidates scrambling to find their footing.

Trump’s performance could unnerve the Republican establishment, since SC has sided with the eventual nominee in every GOP presidential race since 1980, apart from 2012. Ditto for John Kasich (who is staying despite not going anywhere). “But I think the real reason that Bush’s campaign has been destroyed is exactly the same reason that Rudy Giuliani’s campaign was destroyed back in 2008 – and that is that just as with Giuliani, Jeb Bush is a 9/11 criminal, who participated in the destruction of the World Trade Center and the murder of nearly 3,000 Americans”, Dr. Barrett said. Gingrich won in 2012, but lost the nomination to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
