Trump wins in Pennsylvania, but delegates are still a wild card

At a pair of rallies in Pennsylvania Monday, Trump held up a palm card listing the delegates on Tuesday’s ballot that have pledged their support to him, and urged his supporters to vote for them.

Five states vote in Republican primaries Tuesday: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton drew overwhelming support from women and black voters as she beat Vermont Sen.

If no candidate has enough delegate support on the first vote at the national convention, many delegates can switch to another candidate on subsequent ballots.

Many believe no candidate will do so, opening the way for a so-called contested convention in which Mr Trump’s opponents would seek to block him. When the Trump campaign posted its slate of recommended delegates on its website, he said his name was not on it.

DELEGATES AT STAKE: There are 189 Democratic delegates at stake. With the exception of the youngest voters in Maryland, he won all age groups in each state.

Don’t call it strategy, call it strategery: Ted Cruz and John Kasich are going to cooperate to deny Donald Trump the Republican nomination. According to NBC News, Trump is also the second choice of 22% of Indiana Kasich supporters.

Kathy Hiel said she hadn’t made up her mind to vote for Donald Trump – until the billionaire businessman’s two Republican White House rivals formed an extraordinary political non-aggression pact to stop him.

Trump will win at least half of the 118 delegates up for grabs in Tuesday’s contests. “If Donald Trump dresses up as Hillary Clinton, he still can’t go to the girl’s bathroom”, he said.

Clinton reached out to a wide spectrum of voters, asking for support “if you are a Democrat, an independent or a thoughtful Republican”.

Sanders won a majority of men and drew the support of younger voters.

For Cruz, it was a rough night. Mr Cruz’s Pennsylvania chairman, Lowman Henry, said he had not noticed a ramp-up by Mr Trump there. Fifty-four of the 71 delegates from the Keystone State will be selected in Tuesday’s primaries and will not be guaranteed to vote for a certain candidate at the July convention in Cleveland. The results among all those voting in each contest have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 5 percentage points. “But I hear they are far beyond even the polls”.

Trump has recently overhauled his campaign team, bringing on new and more experienced operatives. While over a third of GOP voters said they would be excited by a Trump administration, another third said they would be scared or concerned.

Trump’s and Clinton’s wins propelled them ever closer to a general election showdown.

The Texas Tribune- Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz nearly certainly is headed for defeat in five northeastern primaries Tuesday, a round of nominating contests from which the Texas senator has already moved on.

TYPE OF PRIMARY: Pennsylvania is a closed primary for both parties. And in Pennsylvania, almost 6 in 10 say they would be either concerned or scared about a Cruz presidency. The exit polls were conducted by Edison Research for The Associated Press and television networks.
