Trumps VP choice Mike Pence rallies Republicans

Mr Cruz, a Texas senator, was defeated by Mr Trump in the race to become Republican candidate in the race for the White House, and spoke on the third day of the party’s convention in Cleveland, Ohio. In a crowded field of Republicans that included a closetful of governors and other senators, Cruz snuggled up to Trump as the businessman tore up the other candidates.

While not endorsing Trump, Cruz did encourage Americans go to out and vote in the November presidential elections.

“This team is ready”, he said. He promised that Donald Trump, the presidential nominee, “will confront radical Islamic terror at its source and destroy the enemies of our freedom”.

Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and Trump surrogate who followed Cruz in the line-up, attempted to defend the Texan’s statements to angry delegates on the convention floor. Each party formally nominates its candidates for president and vice president, and the party unveils its party platform, or manifesto.

Cruz’s speech was another stumble at a convention marked by several missteps, including a speech by Trump’s wife, Melania, that included lines similar to those in a 2008 Democratic convention speech by President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle. “If he was not going to endorse, he should have stayed off the stage”.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was less forgiving, telling NBC Nightly News: “It was an terrible, selfish speech by someone who tonight through the words he said on that stage showed everybody why he has richly earned the reputation that he has on Capitol Hill”. “He holds the Bible up with one hand and then pulls it down and he lies”.

Meanwhile, Cruz informed Trump of his plans not to issue an endorsement from the convention stage during a telephone conversation they had two days ago, according to Cruz strategist Jason Johnson.

Mike Halleck, a delegate from Lisbon, considers Kasich a friend.

“I think you misunderstood one paragraph that Ted Cruz – who is a superb orator – said”, Gingrich said.

He added, “And I think the performance you saw up there is why Ted has so richly deserved the reputation he’s developed on Capitol Hill”.

Trump’s own conduct during the speech was highly questionable. But Pence too was clear about his bedrock conservative principles.

Her husband, who is already eying another run in 2020, was unapologetic, but he came under fire from Trump and other Republicans. Browbeating Republicans into voting for Trump may help Trump, but it won’t help turn out Republican-leaning voters who can’t in good conscience back Trump.

Pence also talked about how as governor of IN he sparked economic growth IN the state by cutting taxes and reducing the size of the government.

“He’s a man known for his large personality, his colorful style, and his charisma – and, well, I guess he was looking for someone to balance the ticket”, Pence said, laughing.

“We will win the hearts and minds of the American people with an agenda for a prosperous and stronger America”, he said.

The vice presidential nominee painted Trump as a champion of working people in the United States, of the service personnel who protect America overseas, and the law enforcement officers on the “thin blue line”. The state cast all of its ballots for Trump on Tuesday. Asked multiple times what he thought about Cruz’s speech, Walker replied, “I think my speech was great; I love talking about how America deserves better”.

“I believe he has shown in his home state that he has the ability to bring people together”, Perry said.
