Tsakalotos stays on as Greek finance minister

This course is enthusiastically supported by the Left Party. While Mr. Theodorakis (leader of Potami) failed to reverse the suspicion that he serves the interests of big capital, although in the party lists across the country very reputable candidates participated.

“We welcome the completion of the electoral process in Greece and look forward to working with the new government on the policies needed to put Greece on a path for sustainable growth”.

This stands reality on its head.

Commentators generally agreed that Meimarakis had matched Tsipras in two high-profile televised debates at which he pushed one central message: that Tsipras could not be trusted after accepting the bailout terms he had vehemently opposed. Week in week out, the troika will be demanding more recessionary, antisocial policies: “pension cuts, lower child benefits, more foreclosures”.

Britain’s Economist noted, “Many Syriza voters feel betrayed by Mr. Tsipras’s reversal of his pledge to end austerity”. In fact, the low turnout is due to the fact that almost half of all eligible voters do not trust any of the parties to represent their interests.

But Tsipras confounded his critics, romping to a clear reelection victory on Sunday.

Greece’s new government that emerged from Sunday’s snap general elections was sworn in on Wednesday in Athens at a ceremony held at the presidential mansion. “This struggle will be continued together for a full four years”. The opposition Socialist PASOK party said it was a “blatant violation of fundamental principles of the political left”.

Another provisional finance minister included is Tryfonas Alexiadis. They refused to mobilise the Greek and European working class against the EU because they speak for wealthy and aspiring middle class layers and sections of the bourgeoisie who have a fundamental interest in maintaining bourgeois order and the capitalist system.

“His first cabinet was marked by Syriza’s big appointments, such as Yanis Varoufakis, which had particularly bad results”.

The eighth party to enter parliament, the pro-austerity Union of Centrists, was originally set up in 1992 by Vassilis Leventis, a former founding member and MP of PASOK.

But one new arrival has raised eyebrows – a lawmaker from junior coalition partner, the nationalist Independent Greeks (ANEL), who has made repeated anti-Semitic comments on social media, and was appointed junior works minister.

When challenged by another twitter user about the claim, Mr Kammenos, no relation of Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos, replied: “F*** your Talmud”.
