Tsonga beats marathon man Isner in another Wimbledon epic
The match, played over two days, went 4 hours, 25 minutes, with the fifth set alone running 2 hours, 8 minutes.

The look on John Isner’s face said it all: “Not again”.
They played three sets before being halted because of darkness Saturday night and finished Sunday.
“A little bit; a little bit”, the world No. 12 answered when asked if thoughts of Isner vs. Mahut crept into his mind during the latter stages of the fifth set.
Raonic had not lost a service game through his first three matches in the tournament, but Goffin broke him three times on the way to grabbing the opening two sets.
“I think it’s super cool, and that’s the match I was watching: Isner v Tsonga”.
After hitting a return into the net in the next game, Gasquet decided that he could not continue and went to shake hands with number 12 seed Tsonga, at 4-2 and 40-0 down.
France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga instead now enters the fourth round after earning a come from behind win that included saving a match point.
“There’s been a million future number ones that never got to number one”. Isner unleashed an astonishing 23 aces in the fifth compared to just 8 for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. But the Frenchman fought off both break points, eventually took the set in a tiebreaker, and thus lived to see another day.
“A lot happened out there, Marin is such a wonderful player, I was in so much trouble in the third and then again in the fourth”, Federer told the BBC after the match. I try to recover as good as possible for Wednesday.
“In the draw sometimes you need to be a little bit lucky”. You know, I had a chance and he came up with a good serve. “John did a great job on serve and it was really close today”.
Gasquet, a two-time Wimbledon semifinalist, appeared to injure himself while going for a shot early in the sixth game.
Tsonga, the French 12th seed, was due back on court Monday for his fourth round tie against French compatriot Richard Gasquet.
It’s the first time since 1929 that four Frenchmen have reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon. I felt it yesterday playing against Ramos at the end of the match.
It’s worth noting the No. 12-seeded Tsonga was actually seeded higher than No. 18 Isner.
With three match points under his belt, Tsonga double-faulted, the tease. The match lasted a total of 4 hours, 24 minutes on Court 2.
World no. 18 Nick Kyrgios defeats world no. 21 Feliciano Lopez upon resumption of their tied 1-1 match. Their last Grand Slam meeting during the 2015 US Open saw Andy Murray take down Kyrgios in the very first round. This was only the fourth time since The Championships, as they’re called around these parts, began 139 years ago that matches were played on the middle Sunday. He was also able to break the young Zverev six times out of ten break point tries.
