In 2014, Tulane jumped into the American Athletic Conference and the Green Wave finished 3-9. He did manage to get the Green Wave to the hometown New Orleans Bowl in his second season with a 7-5 mark, and recruiting, particularly locally, appeared to be on the uptick.

Zack Langelar, Craig Suits and Kolton Schindelar ignited a late rally to lead Tulsa past Tulane 45-34 Friday night.

“I want to thank CJ for his hard work and his dedication to rebuilding the Green Wave football program”, Tulane athletic director Rick Dickson said in a statement, via NOLA.com.

Tulane is set to make a decision on hiring a new athletics director next week and a coaching search will be the immediate priority for the new athletics director. Dickson announced earlier this year that he plans to retire in mid-2016. The Green Wave had a 6-18 overall record during those two seasons. “I know he’s been a great friend, someone who’s been a great recruiter”. “We just have to really go into practice this week and focus on getting all the little things right, getting all the details right, and playing our football”, Langer told reporters. His efforts were rewarded in 2013 when Tulane reached its first bowl in 11 years. Johnson and his staff expected to contend for a bowl game this season but conservative estimates had the team finishing with three or four wins.

After the ensuing kickoff, Suits picked off Tulane’s Jordy Joseph and went 28 yards to give Tulsa the lead, 38-34. Everything is football first.
