Weigel knows public confidence in the agency is low. Glanz plans to plead not guilty to both counts, Wood said after the court hearing where the charges were announced.
Thousands of people signed the petitions, prompting prosecutors to call a grand jury to investigate the office. The.38-caliber revolver that Bates carried, which is believed to be the one that killed Harris, wasn’t ever authorized by the police department.
“The shooting death of Eric Harris which occurred on April 2, 2015 was a tragedy for his family, the community, and the sheriff’s office”. Additionally, the report showed Bates received a fraction of the training time necessary for his role with the sheriff’s office. His close ties to Glanz and the agency raised questions about the reserve deputy program and whether Bates and others received special treatment in return for the gifts.
Harris’ brother, Andre Harris, also was in the packed courtroom Wednesday.
Local civil rights organizer Marq Lewis said the indictment marked a win for residents.
Lewis says the results of the investigation are “a statement to never bet against the citizens, the people of Tulsa County. I truly regret that any of my actions have led to the impaneling of this grand jury, and the disruptions in the lives of the jurors and the witnesses”, Glanz wrote in a statement.
Grand jurors completed their investigation Wednesday into the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office and released several recommendations to Tulsa County District Judge Rebecca Nightingale. A few documents remain sealed.
The grand jury also publicly submitted a list of eight recommendations, including that the sheriff’s office improve its training and documentation, including better accountability of field training hours.

Any lawsuit naming Glanz in his official capacity will be inherited by the new sheriff, even if he is named as Sheriff Stanley Glanz.
