Tumblr set to introduce a new advertising program soon
Verizon gains the Tumblr social network as a part of the larger group of content sites it’s taking over, which also includes Flickr, Yahoo News and Yahoo Sports.

How much money Tumblr can make from ads is another question with the site being almost as famous for its pornographic content as it is a bastion of social justice revolution; mainstream advertisers are unlikely to go near Tumblr with even a 100 foot pole begging the question as to what sort of ads the network will attract.
Under the new Verizon ownership, Tumblr introduced a new program to display ads on its blogging website with the aim of generating more funds from ads sales.
It may be too early to predict how the advertising will work out for Tumblr but given the likely huge user backlash and inability to attract quality advertising the odds against the ad rollout being successful are low from the get go. However, the company has not yet disclosed any details about the “revenue split” system it will use under the program with participating bloggers.
The news comes after Verizon was confirmed to be the bid victor for acquiring the once glorious Yahoo Inc. The said program will launch later this year but a solid date has not been announced by the blog.
Again, that’s still better than other platforms – I sure wish I could make money off of my Instagram photos – but it seems odd Tumblr isn’t just waiting until everything is ready before rolling out the ads. However, we do know via TechCrunch that the service is going to be opt-out – meaning ads will be turned on by default. It will allow the company to generate some revenue without having to become a pay to blog site.
This time, Tumblr wants to value blogger’s job and give more opportunities to advertisers.

While the ads start rolling out now, the lucre won’t start rolling in till “later this year”, the company said.
