Another passenger, Rhonda Renee, described the turbulence as “like a bad dream”, CNN reported.
The passengers were treated for minor injuries and were released by early Friday, NBC News said, citing the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Passengers from the 429 JetBlue Flight, had to be diverted to South Dakota’s Rapid City after high turbulence struck the aircraft.
JetBlue provided water for the passengers after the aircraft landed in Rapid City and the airport provided blankets.
“We are really sore, we got pretty banged up, thrown around like little rag dolls”, she said. “If people weren’t wearing their seatbelt, they hit their head on the ceiling”.
The plane, an Airbus320, can accommodate between 150 and 189 passengers.
Derek Lindahl said a woman in front of him rose two feet into the air above her seat because she wasn’t strapped in.
Another passenger on the flight, Rhonda Lynam told ABC News, “People were floating”.

JetBlue spokeswoman Sharon Jones says 122 of the passengers have since completed their trip, landing in Sacramento nearly 10 hours later. It arrived in Rapid City, S.D., at about 7:30 p.m., according to Katherine McMillan, a spokesperson for JetBlue Airlines.
