Turkey-backed rebels could push further south in Syria, Erdogan says

The video shows USA commandos riding in a convoy with Turkish tanks. Turkish and American military officials had talked about a joint operation in Syria for months, but the original assault took place while the proposal languished at the White House and with no warning to the Americans, according to US officials. “They didn’t quite chase them out, but the Americans thought it better that they leave”.

Akar added that only after a full clean-up in the Turkish Armed Forces, will the country’s army become stronger. Another man shouted, “Christians and Americans have no place among us”.

Clashes between Turkish-allied forces and the Kurdish YPG militia, a key USA partner in the fight against Islamic State, have caused tension between Washington and Ankara. And U.S.is backing the Syrian Kurdish rebels, who also are despised by Erdogan. So it is in Syria with the American-Turkish operations named Operation Noble Lance.

The rebel source said the USA forces had entered al-Rai, 2 km (1 mile) inside Syria, as part of that operation.

Video footage appears to show U.S. commandos fleeing a Syrian town under a barrage of abuse and insults hurled at them by fighters from the American-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebel group.

However, the latest episode highlights the complexity of the conflict in Syria.

As the video ends, a message reads “These terrorist groups supported by the Turkey and U.S.to fight against the Kurds, under the pretext of fighting ISIS in Syria”.

President Barack Obama approved the joint U.S.

The visit coincided with Turkey starting an operation to drive IS jihadists out of a key Syrian border town. Up to 40 US Special Operations Forces are accompanying troops of Turkish Army as they clear ISIS from the northern part of Syria.

“Secretary Kerry expressed concerns about the repeated and unacceptable delays of humanitarian aid”, State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement Friday after Mr Kerry and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke by phone.

Dozens of US Special Operations Forces have been deployed to Syria’s border with Turkey to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group there, in support of the Turkish military and “vetted” Syrian rebels, the Pentagon said on Friday (Sept 16).
