Turkey condemns ‘disproportionate’ Israeli attacks on Gaza strip
It came after militants in the Gaza strip fired a rocket at the Israeli border town of Sderot on Sunday (21 August).

Since January, 14 rockets fired from Gaza have hit Israeli territory, the military said. There was property damage however.
“We conducted strikes against several dozen targets in the Gaza Strip” on Sunday, an army spokeswoman told AFP.
In 2014, Israeli diplomats and their families were evacuated from Turkey following violent protests outside the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul against Israel’s ground operation in Gaza.
The dailies said the bombing resulted in the injury of four local Palestinians, whose cases were described as moderate.
“We will not keep silent in light of Turkey’s baseless denunciation of us”, the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Israel launched air strikes on Beit Hanoun, a city on the northeast edge of the Gaza Strip, the army and police have said. Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Israel, the US and the European Union, seized control of Gaza in 2007 after days of armed battles against the security forces of the Palestinian Authority’s ruling Fatah faction.
The Turkish parliament has ratified a reconciliation agreement signed with Israel in June, ending a six-year strain in ties.
“Turkey should think twice before it criticizes the military actions of other countries”, the statement read, adding that Israel would “continue to protect innocent people from rocket fire on our turf, in accordance with global law and in accordance with our conscience and responsibility”.
Just a few hour after the Hamas rocket fire into Israel, the organization’s military wing staged a parade in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip during which they presented rockets produced by the group and bragged about terrorists from the commando unit.
Emmanuel Nahshon, spokesman for Israel’s foreign ministry, responded by calling Turkey to “think twice before criticising the military actions of others”.

Hamas congratulated Erdogan on quashing the attempted coup. In addition, the remains of Israeli soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin, killed in the 2014 Gaza war with Hamas, are being held in Gaza. Meanwhile, Israel clarified that it is not interested in an escalation.
