Turkey insists Kurds have no place at UN Syria talks
The United Nations’ envoy on Syria, Staffan de Mistura, has said that Syria peace talks originally scheduled to begin on January 25 have been rescheduled to start on January 29.

Cavusoglu told reporters that Turkey considers the Syrian Kurdish forces “terrorists”.
In addition to the Geneva talks, the two also exchanged views on Russia’s airstrikes in Syria, diplomatic sources reported.
The UN envoy said the resolution has given him the mandate and the task to finalize the efforts on the list of Syrian participants.
“We are going to have the meeting and they [the talks] are going to start, we will have clarity I hope within 24 hours, somewhere like that, 48, something pretty soon”, Kerry said.
The UN said last week that it believed the talks would be delayed by a few days for negotiations over who should be present.
The first phase of talks would last 2-3 weeks, with a focus on a ceasefire, stopping Islamic State and increasing humanitarian aid. “It will be uphill anyway”.
Mr de Mistura said the “proximity talks” would be indirect to start with, with negotiators ferrying messages between the sides. “Suspension of fighting regarding ISIL and al Nusra is not on the table”.
He said there were “plenty of other suspensions of fighting that can take place” before adjourning the session.
“The participation will be as inclusive as possible, including women, civil society and other marginalized groups”, said Mistura, answering a question concerning the composition of the delegations. That resolution also aims to produce credible governance and a schedule for drafting a new Syrian constitution.
