Turkey mourns after attacks on Istanbul’s airport

At least 36 people have been killed and over 100 others injured in a suicide gun and bomb attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk airport.

The U.S. Consulate is working to see whether any Americans were among the victims in Tuesday’s attack at an Istanbul Airport, a State Department spokesman told Fox News.

Later, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim confirmed the reports, saying three attackers had opened fire before detonating their explosive vests.

Saudi Arabia’s Embassy in Turkey says at least seven Saudis were injured in the Istanbul airport attack and all are in stable condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded all flights between the United States and Istanbul, US media reported.

“There was blood on the ground”, she told The Associated Press.

“So many people who are fainting right now and the mood here is a total drama”, he said, reporting from the scene.

Passengers arriving from Istanbul said they spent additional time clearing customs, with questions asked about their time in Turkey and past travel to the U.S.

Corey Erman, whose family cleared security near the site of the attack at Ataturk International Airport, agreed.

Reacting to Tuesday’s deadly terror attack at Turkey’s busiest Ataturk airport, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump reiterated his call for the return of waterboarding and the use of other harsher interrogation techniques in the battle against Islamic State militants. Officials say one bomb was planted in the arrival hall of the terminal hosting EgyptAir.

He suggested that the attack was linked to what he said was Turkey’s success against Kurdish rebels as well as steps Ankara took on Monday toward mending strained ties with Israel and Russian Federation. “The airport reopened to air traffic as of 2:22am (1122GMT) and air traffic returned to normal”, he added.

Turkey has suffered a spate of bombings this year, including two suicide attacks in tourist areas of Istanbul blamed on Islamic State, and two auto bombings in the capital, Ankara, which were claimed by a Kurdish militant group.
