Dion said the requests from the Turkish government came before and after last week’s coup attempt to overthrow the Erdogan government. He also said on Twitter they would be “market-friendly” and would prioritise structural reform.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency on Wednesday as he widened a crackdown against thousands of members of the security forces, judiciary, civil service and academia after a failed military coup.
Members of the Gulen movement, a Muslim sect headed by the US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who was an ally of President Erdogan before falling out with him in 2013, are accused by the Turkish government of plotting the coup attempt.
Hundreds more have been suspended from the Prime Minister’s office and government bodies dealing with religious affairs, family and social policy and development have been suspended. “This is unacceptable in a state governed by rule of law”, Yildirim said.
“A deep split is emerging in Turkish society”, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.
Also placed under formal arrest was Colonel Ali Yazici, chief military aide to Erdogan.
This recent cross-border attack comes as Turkey’s military deals with the aftermath of an attempted coup, carried out by a faction within its armed forces.
“We have collected many documents”. The cleric has denied any knowledge of the attempted coup. But he also suggested that the USA government shouldn’t require the facts before extraditing him.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim formally announced the extradition request to Parliament on Tuesday, calling Gulen a “terrorist leader”.
“They’re suffering, so the people are very sensitive and we have to act very sensibly and sensitively”.
The threat of prolonged instability in a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member country, which had not seen a violent military coup for more than three decades, has shaken investors’ confidence.
Earlier, Erdogan suggested in an interview with the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV network that coup plotters might still be active in the weeks ahead.
The foreign ministry has said criticism of the government’s response amounts to backing the coup.
But he said Canada is “especially concerned” about reports Turkey might bring back the death penalty, which it abolished 12 years ago.
Whatever the doubts about Turkey’s ability to fulfil the criteria for visa liberalisation before the coup, the country is now more likely to breach standards on rule of law and freedom of speech demanded by the EU.
The main opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP, slammed the state of emergency move.
“We need to make sure that all those who will be arrested related to his coup will have the opportunity to defend themselves in a robust and legitimate trial”.
Addressing hundreds of supporters outside his Istanbul residence early Tuesday, Erdogan responded to calls for the reintroduction of the death penalty with the simple statement: “You can not put aside the people’s demands”.
“The fact that so many judges have been detained, never mind the workload at the courthouses, will render them inoperable”, said Vildan Yirmibesoglu, a human rights lawyer.
