Turkey president’s office denies advocating Hitler-style rule
Erdogan said: “When you look at Hitler’s Germany, you’ll see it there”. The presidential system of governance does not have to rely on federalism.

The controversial leader, who is loved and loathed in equal measure, hopes to change the country’s constitution to transfer legislative powers from the parliament to the presidency. “If you provide justice, there will be no problem because what people want and expect is justice”.
Eliot Higgins, who has achieved celebrity status for his analysis of weapons usage in the Syrian war, said Mr Erdogan had achieved a first by managing to “Godwin” himself.
“Erdogan’s “Hitler’s Germany” metaphor has been distorted by some news sources and has been used in the opposite sense”, the presidency said in a statement.
Erdogan’s office later said the president had cited the era as a negative example to explain that bad rule can emerge in all political systems.
“If the system is abused, be it a parliamentary or presidential system, disastrous administrations could result, as in the example of Nazi Germany. The important thing is to pursue fair management that serves the nation”, the statement said, adding it was unacceptable to suggest Erdogan was casting Hitler’s Germany in a positive light.
“Let’s do a close comparison between Hitler and Erdogan”, one person wrote on Twitter.
News obtained via the Dogan News Agency claims that the arrest was made after someone informed the police about the boy’s comments, and he was later arrested from his home in West Tekirdag province.

“What is right for Turkey is to adopt the presidential system in line with the democratic spirit”, he said in a television interview this week. “Given this, why should we put shackles on our feet [by sticking with a parliamentary system]?” It would be similar to the presidencies of the United States, Russia and Turkey.
