Turkey, US Foreign Ministers Discuss Extradition of Cleric Gulen: Turkish Formin Sources
Turkey’s recent security issues, the damaged relations with Russian Federation (which now seem to be, at least publically, on the mend) and bitter relations with Tehran all coalesced to make the recent failed coup even more problematic for Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish government declared a state of emergency and launched a massive crackdown on Gulen’s supporters in the aftermath of the coup.
About a possible reinstatement of the death penalty in Turkey for those involved in the defeated coup, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his stance that the decision would be left up to Turkish lawmakers in the parliament.
