Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Russia on August 9 for his first face-to-face meeting with Vladimir Putin since Moscow and Ankara mended ties damaged by the downing of a Russian jet past year, Turkish officials said on Tuesday.

A bridge over the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul – which saw some of the fiercest fighting – is to be renamed July 15 Martyrs’ Bridge after the victims of the failed coup bid, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said.
“The European leaders are not honest”, Mr Erdogan complained in an interview with German ARD television.
Of the €3bn (£2.5bn) pledged, the European Union has paid a token €1m-€2m, he said.

Turkey is a member of the 47-nation Council of Europe, which bars members from executing prisoners.
