“Nobody will benefit from mutual embargos”, Davutoğlu said, while speaking in a conference in Baku.
The Turkish PM stated that the crisis hits Turkey.
Davutoglu insisted Turkey did not know the nationality of the plane it downed inside Turkish air space. Moscow denies the Turkish account – President Vladimir Putin called the downing a “stab in the back by accomplices of terrorists”.
“It is possible to find different suppliers”, Erdogan said in a televised speech, referring to Qatar and Azerbaijan.
Once again defending Turkey’s move to down the plane, Davutoğlu said Turkey will not apologize for defending its borders. The shoot-down, the first time a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation country has downed a Russian plane in more than half a century, sparked a bitter falling out between the two nations, which had developed robust economic ties.
Overall, Turkey depends on Russian gas supplies and despite the Russia-Turkey tension, Russian gas continues to normally flow Turkey. It also slammed an array of economic sanctions on Turkey, including a ban on imports of fruit and vegetables and the sales of tourism packages. At a meeting during the G20 summit in November, 2015, the Russian and Turkish leaders agreed to extend a pipeline project which will supply natural gas to Turkey and Europe.
