Earlier this week, IS posted images online purportedly showing militants driving a tank over a captured soldier, who it alleged had himself driven over militants.

Since then, it has destroyed ancient temples and other relics.

Experts say the militants have used the destruction to raise their profile to attract new recruits, and are also funding their “caliphate” by selling treasures on the black market.

The killings, which appear to be ISIS’ latest method of execution, happened on Monday afternoon at the Palmyra archaeological site a few miles from the city. Differences concerning the PYD are causing tension between Turkey and the US. “We have struck them twice”, he added, but did not elaborate any more and did not specify when or where.

The YPG is the fighting force of the PYD, or the Kurdish Democratic Party.

“It’s very clear that the USA didn’t see the slightest need to consult Turkey before making the important decision to support the Kurds in Syria both militarily and politically”.

The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) said Turkey shot at its forces in the town of Tal Abyad on Sunday.

He said that Turkey would not allow the Syrian Kurdish force “to go west of the Euphrates and that we would hit it the moment it did”.

While Turkey bombed PKK camps in northern Iraq in July, PKK fighters carried out a number of deadly attacks against Turkish authorities in the country’s southeastern regions, where a large portion of the country’s Kurdish population resides. In June, it expelled ISIL fighters from Tal Abyad after fierce clashes.
