It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack, but the PKK frequently targets police stations and other security force outposts with vehicle bombs.
The police station – near the border with Iran – also serves as a police barracks.
Speaking after the attack, Van’s deputy governor Mehmet Parlak said 38 of those injured were civilians while two were police officers.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Kurdish insurgents have targeted police stations with vehicle bombs in the past.
Three victims were killed Tuesday in a terror attack in the eastern city of Van, authorities told Anadolu Agency.
For the past year, Turkish armed forces and PKK militants have resumed fighting in Turkey’s volatile southeast.
Since then, more than 600 security personnel have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
