The children were found strapped in a auto seat in the rear of a Nissan sport-utility vehicle parked outside a duplex in Carrollton at around 6:30 p.m., and were rushed to a hospital but did not survive, NBC affiliate WXIA reported. “One of the neighbors got some ice packs out of the freezer and carried it out there”, Dobbs said.

“She was devastated that the father left them in the vehicle”, Holland said.

She was at Grady Memorial Hospital at the bedside of her sister who had been involved in a serious auto accident, Dobbs said. The auto the twins were left in has been impounded.

She said that their time was short, but that it was full of love.

Temperatures in Carrollton breached 90 degrees the afternoon of Asa North’s daughter’s deaths.

“It takes minutes for a vehicle to heat up to unsafe levels, kids bodies heat up four times faster than adults and cracking the windows doesn’t matter” says Deborah Hersman, National Safety Council.

“He’s a dedicated father and he really cares about his children”, Arthur North said. They were then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

‘He should have never been in the house asleep.

Neighbors told police they heard screams before rushing to try to help the Norths, reports CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV.

With so many of these deaths occurring, it is important to keep in mind to “look before you lock”- check and double check the back of your vehicle to ensure that no child has been left behind.

“I can tell people that he loved his babies”, Asa’s aunt Audrey North.

The person who discovered the two toddlers in the back of the hot SUV has not been named.

By this time previous year, 12 children had died in hot cars, Fennell said. A neighbor provided assistance by offering ice packs.

The horrific death of these two girls at the hands of their negligent father is heartbreaking, but it is also part of a growing and unfortunate trend.
