The new “Twin Peaks” reunites original series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost with cast members including Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee.

Nevins made the reveal today at the Television Critics Association press tour.
The show’s new season will be comprised of 18 episodes.
News of Twin Peaks’ revival came in late 2014, and it did not arrive without drama in tow.
Not that Lynch gave anything away.
But Lynch later dropped out, apparently delaying production, and raising questions – now answered – about when this would actually air.
A longtime practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, Lynch, wearing his customary dark suit and crisply buttoned-up white shirt, was composed and positive.
As to how their collaboration worked 25 years later, Lynch offered that “Mark is very smart”.
When the deal with Showtime was locked, Lynch said that the pair worked via Skype.
Lynch conceded he was not deeply engaged with the online fan base for the series, and was not overly aware of the buzz the series had generated.
Like so many other things in the quaint but deceptively-libidinous logging community, not all was as it appeared.
Lynch directed all the episodes, and the show represents his pure vision, Nevins said.
Twin Peaks will return on Showtime May 21st. “And we met at Musso & Frank and talked and that’s what got us going again for this one”.
In fact, if Lynch ever elaborated beyond a single sentence, it was to rhapsodize about the making of Twin Peaks, a world he openly loves.
And, most tellingly, when a reporter asked whether the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me would be treated as canon for the revival, or something that could be ignored, he paused for a long time, then replied, “I could say it’s the story of Laura Palmer’s last seven days”.
“I’m playing my very own character”, said Laura Dern dodging a question as to whether she would play Diane, Agent Dale Cooper’s secretary who he would always leaves messages for.
Dern agreed, praising Lynch’s ability to direct with “a breath”, “a sigh”, or “a shrug of the shoulder”.

Following the May 21 premiere, Showtime subscribers will have access to the third and fourth episodes via Showtime’s on demand platform and Showtime Anytime. This will be followed by one-hour episodes in subsequent weeks, fast-tracked in Australia only on Stan. This is terrific news for people anxious they might have to break the law and run afoul of Agent Cooper trying to get a hold of the show when it airs.
