‘Twin Peaks’ revival: Filming finishes and premiere date scheduled
That’s because David Lynch’s long-awaited Twin Peaks revival will debut in the first half of 2017, Showtime Networks’ CEO David Nevins told reporters during the 2016 TV critics press tour Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A touted clip reel shown at TCA did not include any actual footage, only actors on set raving about how wonderful the show is. Lynch and writer Mark Frost only handed in two scripts, with a binder of musings and ideas forming a general outline for the rest of the season.

Showtime executives trotted out enthusiastic cast members of the “Twin Peaks” reboot at a critics’ gathering, but did not announce details of the first episode or even how many installments there will be.
Apparently, Lynch and the team have completed principal filming on the project and are now left to edit all of the footage (which was shot as a continuous movie) down into individual episodes. The network thinks they have Twin Peaks down to a mid-2017 premiere, but David Lynch’s “fluid” process makes an exact episode count hard to pin down.
“It is a fluid process”, Levine said. That organism continues to evolve. “Until [Lynch] feels that he’s figured that out, we don’t know”. I really want to embrace the unusualness of it. “I think it is quite possible we’re not going to do a traditional release pattern”. I don’t know exactly what that means yet. I’ve had a couple conversations with David, but I kind of want to embrace the unexpectedness of it. Fans might have anticipated that they would have to wait forever to see new episodes of the show, and it has indeed been a long wait. It’s a question of how do we release it linearly? There may be a difference between the two. We did see them unveil the old “Welcome to Twin Peaks” sign, and a group of suits led by James Marshall walking down the street. And the early footage is rolling in. The original “Twin Peaks” veered between grim, creepy, bittersweet and downright weird.
“Revisiting this territory, there’s a freshness to it, there’ s lightness to it”, said MacLachlan in the reel, which Showtime execs said would not be released. “Needless to say, this won’t appear outside this room”, Nevins said, to laughter from the crowd.

“In watching a little of the dailies of ‘Twin Peaks, ‘ we were instantly transported, and these weren’t even cut scenes”, Levine said.
