Twins beat Detroit Tigers, move closer to Wild Card playoff spot
The Twins got a three-run triple from Eddie Rosario in the loss but managed only Brian Dozier’s single as the other hit to fall for the seventh time in the last 10 games. After back-to-back walks to Miguel Sano and Trevor Plouffe, Torii Hunter grounded a ball to the left side of the infield.

DETROIT (AP) – This could be the final home series for Brad Ausmus as Detroit’s manager, and he’s handling the speculation about his status with poise and even some humor. “Hey, that sounds like a Yogi-ism.”…
“Not really (surprised). The play before he was kind of playing with me and I knew on that play there was a chance he could go”, Kinsler said. Eduardo Escobar later hit a sacrifice fly, to second baseman Ian Kinsler, for the fourth run. If you have a unique baseball observation during a game, feel free to share it with me on Twitter (@DerekWetmore).
Rookie Tyler Duffey improved to 5-1 with a 3.14 ERA in a 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers Saturday night, helping the Twins keep pace with Houston, which also won and is 1 1/2 games ahead of Minnesota for the second AL wild-card spot. Victor Martinez tied the game with a two-run double in the seventh, and Rajai Davis drilled the go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth. The left-handed Boyd will take the mound against the Twins, who have a 27-26 record against lefty starters this season.
Eddie Rosario ripped the first hit of the game off Boyd with the bases loaded, the shot hitting off the top of the wall in right-center field. The throw home by Kinsler skipped under McCann’s glove.
Wolf registered his third quality start in six outings Monday, but a 3-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox denied him his first win since June 2, 2014, after he allowed three runs in seven innings. That includes a three-game sweep to start the season in which Minnesota was outscored 22-1.
Detroit’s Alfredo Simon (13-11) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk in eight innings. I wasn’t at the ballpark to have a good view of the geography of the play, but having seen it on TV I’d say I don’t like the idea of taking that big risk in that situation.
Miguel Cabrera led off with a single and moved to third on J.D. Martinez’s one-out double. “I wish I had two batters back – the first two of the fifth inning”. Two of the four runs were unearned.NOTES: Minnesota re-instated RHP Ricky Nolasco (right ankle surgery) off the 60-day disabled list, replacing him on the disabled list with LHP Logan Darnell, who has pneumonia. The Twins went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, and the team’s playoff hopes took a significant hit.

But he’s received praise from a guy who doesn’t hand it out for free – manager Paul Molitor – for his effort to work his way back to the field this season.
